AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 49-7-19, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE THE COMMISSION ON WILDLIFE, FISHERIES AND PARKS, BY RULE OR REGULATION, TO MAKE EXCEPTIONS TO THE PROHIBITION AGAINST ISSUING A LICENSE TO A PERSON PHYSICALLY OR MENTALLY UNFIT TO CARRY OR USE A FIREARM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 49-7-19, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

49-7-19. Subject to such exceptions as the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, by rule or regulation may adopt, it shall be unlawful for any officer, authorized to issue the licenses mentioned in this chapter, to knowingly issue a resident license or nonresident license to any person physically or mentally unfit to carry or use firearms.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
